When I took delivery of my new to me R27OB it had the top half of theTV antenna sitting in the cabin.

I thought it would be a simple process to simply reattach it to its base, but I can’t find the base. According to the user manual the antenna is supposed to be on the forward part of the mast. There is a mounting plate there but that mount appears to hold a GPS antenna.

Any suggestions as to where the base plate may be?

Thanks

The TV antenna attaches to a normal antenna base, which is what your GPS antenna is attached to. Remove the GPS antenna and that base is what the TV antenna sits on. However, the TV antenna also needs the VHF/UHF antenna cable in the mast to plug in to.

Thanks Martin. I’ll take a look at it tomorrow. Do you happen to know if that cable is easy to access?

I imagine you use the TV antenna in port then the GPS antenna underway?

Our boat is called Channel Surfing because we shut TV off in 2010.

Hard saying what the previous owner did with the UHF/coax cable that plugs into the TV antenna. It may still be up on the mast, or they may have cut it.
What's the GPS antenna used for that's up on your mast? If it's for AIS, then if you remove it, your AIS won't function. It's not practical to swap out the GPS antenna for the TV antenna based on whether you're in port or not in my opinion.

All we ever found broadcast over the airwaves for TV was religious channels, spanish channels, shopping channels, black and white channels (with shows like the Munsters). The best TV I recall watching was anchored in Prevost Harbor, near the USA/Canada border, and we picked up Victoria evening news once.

I uninstalled our TV antenna years ago and replaced it with a cellular high-gain antenna. I added a Roku to the TV, we stream everything and i mostly watch YouTube.

Good to know thanks! I’ve already installed Roku and like you that’s what I primarily use along with YouTube.

I just wasn’t sure what to do with the TV antenna that was left in the boat. If the reception is poor I won’t pursue it.

As far as the GPS antenna is concerned my understanding is that it provides a higher degree of GPS accuracy. In aviation the system is called WAAS (Wide Area Augmentation System).

The reception wasn't poor on the TV antenna. The quality of the programming that airs over it was.

AIS requires a dedicated GPS antenna for itself to function. That's probably what it's for on your boat.
