Has anyone completed the TWIC ( Transportation Workers Identification Card ) requirement for renewing Merchant Marine Credentials? No one can renew or get 1st time credentials without getting Twic. Seems like it would be worth having. You would have security clearance and make it easier and faster to clear any border or inspection. The old document would be no more. You would get your credential in a booklet similar to a pastport. It would be red in color.
I am going for 5 more years and have gone through the physical and ton of paper work. Drug test is next. I will set an appointment for a TWIC rendezvous in Panama City,Fl. in the next month or so.

Has anyone completed this process yet?

Jump over to Trawlers and Trawlering on Yahoo... Captain Mike over there is active in the group and works full time as a commercial captain and delivers boats to Canada, etc. and has posted on this subject... A query will get you all the gory details...

Thanks Deeny-o,
Up todate now. Got the whole skinny now on C-brats. Captain mat has it on his site.

Yep - I picked up my TWIC card many months ago. No problems - except it took two trips. One to apply and one to pick up the card.

I have. I got one last winter. The government made it a royal pain. And expensive too. As you know it is required for our Captains license.

capncarp,

Not yet, forgot about it to tell the truth. I am due for renewal in 2010.
For $40 a year, I am enrolled in the APCA random drug testing program, as long as I keep current, I don't have to do another drug screening. In 9 years I have never been called. Then again, I only do 1 or 2 deliveries a year.
Thanks for the heads up.

BTW, I am new here. Just signed a contract for a R-29.

Congrats on your new boat order. Glad to see you aboard. You will like doing business with the whole crew at the factory. They are a rare bunch.

Capt. Chris,
If I understood you right you said you have not gotten your TWIC card yet. Don't delay. As of April 2009 the law requires it to exercise the privledges of you license. There are no exceptions and no extension period. Until you have it you don't have a license.

capncarp,
