Two hands

So, there I was, standing on the little walkway on the outside of the R-23, trying to attach mounts on the roof rack while holding on with one hand while trying to do a two hand job. I was thinking there had to be a better way. I held onto the rail with both hands and leaned back. It came to me, if I had a couple of carabiners and a line, kinda like a lineman on a telephone pole. Using a 1/2" fender line and two of the below carabiners, I can now work with two hands. I put a picture in my album.

A life harness would work great for that and its always a good thing to have onboard 😀

JACKLINE! I ran one on each side of the boat where there are no stations. Rhonda is from Tennessee but is a sure footed as a goat on ice!

rules:

1. Leave cockpit you have a jacket on and use harness on jackline

2. Working locks...Jacket on

3. setting anchor...Jacket on

Do you happen to have photos of the jackline? I've been thinking about that for a C30 and would be interested to see where you run it. I'm thinking perhaps to go from stanchion in cockpit to cleat on bow, along each side.

An alternative might be lines on the roof, and then separately on the bow (using a dual tether to switch between them). That would be more complex but would have the advantage of the line being several feet farther from the water on the sides.

Anchor to aft cargo rack and forward most handrail just behind the nav light. I use Flat polyester Webbing 5/8th inch 1800 pound test, almost no stretch. I use modified clove hitch to tie off...

Makes sense, thanks! I was thinking more about being on deck handling fenders but this makes perfect sense for both that and cargo.
