Has anyone had similar problems?

Planning on trailering fo FL from MA in January!!!!

Thanks..

Wilkie,
need more info. type of brakes? electric or surge? is it being towed by a car or truck? has the wiring been tested (inspected). is the output of your truck jack wiring compatable with the trailers? i ask all these questions because i had to ask myself these very same questios and it turned out that the ford dealer told me that all the fuses were in to make the trailer operate, HE WAS VERY MISINFORMED. new truck, and i ask what is this plastic bag for? oh its just extra. no such thing as extra in a new anything. plugged in the relay and fuse and bingo, it worked just fine.
throw it back out there with some details and somebody will have something for you, good luck.

John,

I believe that actuator is a surge brake so electrical connections are for lights etc. My experience has been that if the trailer has sat around a bit things can get frozen up. Usually a disassembly of each of the calipers one at a time with a cleaning of parts, an exercising of the caliper piston and a conservative lubrication of the areas the pads slide on does the trick. Here is a youtube link talking about a frozen caliper http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i4_hy5X31b4. This particular video does not show how to take it off, but with a bit more of a search on the topic I am sure Wilkie can find one.

John,

Thanks for your reply... However I simply have Surge Brakes with Drums... No electrical connections on the Brakes..... I have bled brakes before and never had the brakes themselves not work after!!!! The brakes were completely rebuilt!!!!! Very frustrating... Thought someone might have a trailer with Buddy A-75 brakes on it..

I don't have experience with this exact model of brake controller, but the first things l'd look at are:

1, is there a manual reverse lock out device usually a lever or pin on the side of the unit to make reversing easier. If this is engaged the brakes will not work.

2, is there a backup solenoid? This serves the same function, but is wired to the tow vehicles back up lights to automatically engage the lock out. These solenoids can become stuck.

3, Is the breakaway cable attached and the breakaway system set properly. Usually there is some sort of indicator that it has been pulled, but the location varies. If the breakaway has been pulled it will bypass the normal hydraulic circuits in the system.

Best of Luck,

Bob
