On a recent trip to Northern Canada our fresh water tank became empty. When I tried to fill it after only a short time water would start pouring out of the filler. When I removed the hose, water and air gushed out and I got soaked. After trying several times, I decided that I had a vent problem. I wrapped the hose with a rag and secured it in the water intake hole. Holding the hose tight, I had someone turn on the water. Much to my surprise after a very short time water started to exit the vent which is located just under the filler port. The lesson I learned was that probably a spider or some other creature got into the vent line, spun a webb and blocked the vent line. If you have trouble filliing your fresh water tank I suggest that you use the water pressure of the hose to clear the vent.

Good advice... 🙂

BTW... I've noticed when I fill my fresh water tank that after a very short period some water does back out of the vent. I then stop the input water flow, wait a few seconds and then continue with the filling. This technique seems to work for me. I also monitor the fresh water tank level via its water level gauge on the dash by peering through the helm's starboard window. This gauge is somewhat slow to respond -- it does so in a a jerky motion with the needle slowly moving.
