YOLO is on a mooring in Nantucket Harbor

It was raining like crazy and the wind was blowing 25 mph.

Just about everything was shut off and all of a sudden we heard a revving noise that appeared to be coming from under the swim platform.

It didn't sound like the wash down pump, fresh water pump, head drain or stern thruster. And it didn't sound like the bilge pumps.

Any guesses? If water backs into the exhaust port, is there something that engages to blow it out?

Rain stopped, wind stopped, noise stopped. I am at a loss on this one.

Is your auto pilot off? If you are stopped and a heading is set and the boat is swinging the autopilot will turn to try to get on heading.

Mechanical noises from that area could be...

1. Trim tab hydraulics
2. Rudder piston actuator
3. Water wash down pump -- easily actuated by bumping up against the rocker switch
4. Stern thruster
5. Rear most bilge pump -- makes a whine noise as apposed to a "revving noise"

Could the wind blowing through your swim step mounted dinghy cause a rumble sound ?

Any submarines in your area ?

Raining like crazy usually means lots of rain water sluicing over the decks going to the bilge.
