Hello I am a newbie and looking forward to this forum. My tug has been a work in progress. I put a new hardtop made out of 5/16 thick poly-carbonate and anodized aluminum it was custom made and I really like it it is 20-30 degrees cooler than canvas and it is guaranteed for 10 years and will last 4-5 times longer than canvas.

So when it's 80 degrees outside it's only 50 or 60 degrees your cockpit? Do you trailer your boat much? Pictures?

would you please post a few pictures of your new set up? what if you go on the road, will it need to be removed?

I would love to replace my canvas enclosure top with a hardtop, but the cost, engineering and time to build a one off is too, too much. My solution to bring the canvas enclosure temperatures down is to fit a light coloured fly of similiar material, over the dark blue sunbrella top. As to temps, when the ambient is 85 or so the enclosure rises to the 95 plus range. The light coloured fly reduced the solar gain and the temp to an acceptable range. I did this on my previous boat and it worked well. As an aside - why people insist on dark coloured canvas is a mystery to me. It may look good but makes an aft enclosure unusable at times.
Happy New Year to all...."live long and prosper".

Hi Tugtime51...

Welcome to Tugnuts. If you could share a little more info it would be great. What model of Ranger Tug or Cutwater have you put your hard top on? Do you have photos you can upload? Or a website where we can see the top? Also, if you would be willing to give us an idea of cost and who did the top that would be helpful as well.

Again, welcome aboard and thanks for posting this topic.
