This fall or early next spring, we are looking to upgrade to a pre-owned R25, either the Classic or SC. Problem is, we have never seen one in person much less set foot on one. What would be a good way go go about doing this? We are willing to travel as necessary, but I am not sure where to start.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Come on down to sunny Naples Fl. and I will take you out on mine.
You can stay on the boat if you like, and save hotel $$$.

Escape the snow and come to CA. Just bought a 2009 25 this month. Would be welcome to show it to you

Hello TK,

Looking at other Tugnut's Tugs would certainly be helpful to begin to learn...

I would recommend Marc Grove at Wefings Marine (Eastpoint, FL - near Apalachicola) as an excellent dealer. He usually has a variety of new and used Ranger Tugs for sale. I purchased my 21EC as well as previous boats from him.

I am simply a happy customer and have no financial, business or other interest in Wefings.

Good luck!

Marc at Wefings Marine in Florida really helped us with our purchase. Never met the guy before. He provided us with very accurate information and no pressure. If you visit check out the Gibson Inn at Apalachicola. Very historic and the oyster capitol of the US. Great place to stay.

Where are you located. I keep a R26 (Classic) in Daytona Beach.

I also highly recommend Marc at Wefings.

Reed Yacht Sales in Racine WI might be a little closer. We purchased our R27 from Mark there and have been very pleased with the service. We're born and raised in ND. Mark Derenne knows his product and can be reached at 414 651-3100 or mark@reedyachtsales.com. Tell him Bernie and Margaret sent you.

You already have a 21 and know what boating is about.
You have read the chatter on here and looked through the photo albums (assumption)
You have looked at the factory's videos on their web site (assumption)
The Classic is the most available of the used 25's
Skip the foreplay and just do it

I never had a 21, never saw a Tug in person, and bought one sight unseen from a guy I didn't know living 700 miles from me.
Even though this particular boat had some issues it was the right decision.
Now on the SC - I cannot see giving up even an inch of cabin space if you intend to live on the boat more than just weekends.
The Classic 25 is the right choice for us. We recently spent 5 weeks in Florida on the boat - two people and a fat dog who insists on sleeping right in the middle of the walkway. Loved every day.
Roam has been pulled from the sunrise side of the lower 48 all the way up to Alaska and back with Rich and Cheryl living aboard for months and thousands of miles of cruising.

GL on your quest.

I'll add to and agree with a couple of points here.

First, we live in Ohio and when we got ready to find a Ranger Tug we had never seen one in person. But based on everything I knew we wanted, like Denny, I didn't want to give up any cabin room for more cockpit space. So I went in search of a new R-25. There were still a few new ones at dealers then and I found a Lauren Green 2010 R-25 at Wefing's in Apalachicola. I called Marc Grove, flew down, took it out for a few hours and bought our 2010 R-25. Marc was great to work with, took care of arranging delivery to me in Ohio, etc.

Since then we've used our boat on Lake Erie, the Ohio river, and our little lake in west central Ohio. We have a camper enclosure for the cockpit and at night have a television and a couple of deck chairs we use there and it becomes like a family room for the evening. If there were more than two of us, perhaps more room in the cockpit would be preferred but if that were the case I would have opted for the R-27. I looked at one of those but the price difference kept me in the R-25 and we are very pleased with the choice.

Good luck in your search. If you can see one up close, you'll be sold.

We bought our Classic 21 sight unseen and it has worked out very well, but I kinda sorta wished I would have taken a look at the EC...it might have swayed our decision. The difference in cost between the 21 and a 25 is substantial and I guess maybe we are being a little too conservative. This is likely our last boat (but I imagine that has been said more often than not) and we want it to be right.

Thank you all very much for your wisdom and advice. I will be following up on it this summer with a fall purchase in mind. I will be watching the FSBO part of the forum, but if anyone hears of a hot deal on a 25 Classic, let me know. If it makes a difference, we will be using it almost exclusively in fresh water, so maybe a fresh-water boat would be desirable.

Camping on the 21 is a lot of fun, but it not livin'.

Thanks a bunch....

" This is likely our last boat (but I imagine that has been said more often than not) "

Umm, I have left strict instructions that when I have shed this mortal coil that there is to b e a delivery tube down to wherever I am, and the latest issues of boating magazines are to be dropped into it monthly.
Last boat, my eye

Thanks all for the support ! Boats and service are all we do here at Wefings . We have been with Ranger Tugs since the first R 21 EC .We are also lucky to live in a very special area. We help any way we can.
Marc

Mark,

Can you send me a PM on what you have in stock for 25 Classics?

I have a 2009 R25 that will be in the center of Kansas by the end of April if that would help. Contact me at leonardbrown43@gmail.com.
