After only a year and a half, we have decided to upgrade from our 2013 R25SC to a new R27! We went to the rendezvous at Poets Cove and apparently caught two-footitis. Delivery is scheduled for March 2023. We are purchasing through Port Boat House in Canada. I would like to get opinions on what upgrades people suggest, what is worth the money and what isn't? One of the quick decisions we have to make is colour. My wife loves the dark blue (as do I), but I think the light grey would be a lot less work and withstand the elements better. Thanks in advance for any advise and opinions on good value upgrades. Thanks to the community!

It was good to meet you at Poets Cove Sean Hope you fishing has been good.
I am partial to the Light Grey. We had a blue R27 and went to the light grey on our 31. Hoping for lower maintenance. I ceramic coated it myself a year ago and so far it’s still looking great. All I do is hose it off.

Congrats on the 27. They are great boats and will get you to the fish fast!

I’m biased towards light grey also.

Thanks for the response, thanks for all your posts, I love your YouTube channel. Any other suggestions that I could ask for pre-delivery? I do not have your skill or patience so will pay before or after 😀

Thanks for the quick response, appreciated. Fishing will heat up in a few weeks 😀 From your 27 days any other upgrade thoughts?

Ok here is a short list for R27
9.9 kicker with shift and throttle mounted in the cockpit
Trollmaster cordless throttle remote for the kicker. Super fin throttle adjustments for salmon trolling.
Rocna 10
10-12 inch Scotty base extension to get your Scotty pot puller up higher.
We love our Raptor decking. Soft on feet and knees. We lay rubber mats on it when shrimping and crabbing. It cleans up well.

Sean are you going to trailer the 27?

thanks great ideas, we are upgrading the anchor, rapture is included now. I've never thought of the throttle options, the current version runs off the auto pilot. At this point we are not planning on adding a trailer. We have one with our 25 and have never used it. We have nothing to tow it with and no place to store one.

If you're looking at upgrades, most of my upgrades are listed on our website.

At a minimum, I always recommend for a new boat a suicide knob, a battery monitor and a solar panel upgrade.

thanks again for taking the time to respond.

Major ditto on the suicide knob!!! It's been a lifesaver!! 😀

Today Port Boat House picked up our 2013 R25SC, Sonder. We had a deposit on a new R27 scheduled for March delivery. A few months ago we realized the US exchange and luxury tax created a very large increase in price. At the same time a 2021 R27 entered the marked. 97 hours on twin 150's. I have never seen twin engines on a Ranger Tug. It also has the dinghy lift system, which will be nice but have some challenges when it comes to fishing. We decided to pivot and buy this boat, Port Boat House was very accommodating. We are very excited, and cannot wait to take possession in February. I didn't think about changing boats when creating my user name, so now I need to figure out how to change my user name 😀

When the R27OB had first come out as a new model, the plan was for twin 150's but the availability was limited so they switched to a single 300 HP.

Sean, You are going to love the 2021 R27. We had a 2020 r27 before our r31. We fished with our 27 and 31. With the 31 we just need to turn the boat to the side you want to net a fish on as we have the dingy on the swim step.
Add the trollmaster remote control throttle to the 9.9. It is so nice when trolling for salmon.
Many fun fishing trips ahead. Hope to see you at Poets cove this spring.
