HI guys: I want to offer my condolences and thoughts to all those sailors onboard the destroyer USS FITZGERALD which, as you know, recently sustained severe damage and personnel loss in a collision at sea off the Japanese coast. As a former RAN sailor and damage control professional, I feel I have some appreciation of what they they may have endured that night. We sailors, former and serving, always think of our brothers and sisters in the sea services, particularly those of our allies. The families of those sailors also suffer. Just wanted to say that. Take care out there. Kind regards to all.

From Canada but ex RNR I second those thoughts.

Thank you for your kind thoughts (both of you). I was in the army but we are all brothers.

Bob

My thoughts and prayers to the families of the deceased and their crewmembers who used their training to save the ship. This incident brought back memories of the ship I was on, the USCG Hornbeam that was in a collision at sea with a large freighter in 1972. If not for the ice breaking design of the ship it would have sunk on that foggy night with massive loss of life. We wonder how these incidents can happen and remind us that we always need to be alert and cautious when we are out on the water, no matter the size of our boats.

All Gave Some - Some Gave All

As we in the U.S. approach July 4, I think we should remind ourselves that Freedom isn't free.

I was US Navy helicopter mechanic on RH-53d's, and some of our birds were left in the desert some 37 years ago.

Truer words were never said. Concur.

Our thoughts are with the sailors, their shipmates, and families.
