used 2009 21' EC fuel vent question

Just purchased a used '09 21' EC Ranger Tug, I have a question about the fuel tank vent. The small vent on the port side stern is not hooked up, instead there is a line going to the filler neck tube. the previous owner said he left the cap loose while he ran it, however we have discovered water in the fuel. Any ideas what the proper configuration should be? Or why someone would have changed this?

There was a problem with the original fuel venting location such that the diesel would splash out of the vent in the 2009ish model year/s. The factory came up with a 'fix' as I recall. I'm trying to recall this from memory when I was researching 21EC before I bought mine. If you search the forum you may find something. I would recommend calling the factory and asking Kenny or Andrew about your situation as well.

Are you saying the fuel tank "vent" is currently to the filler neck tube? This is NOT right and would not pass safety standards. Further reason to call the factory.

I thank you for your help in looking up the information. I will give the factory a call and try to talk with Andrew.
 
Most of the info David referred to you came from me. Read it carefully; it will provide a solution.

The folks at Ranger provided the bits and pieces, except for the fuel vent fitting, which I purchased. If you go the route I did, consider removing the fuel tank to make the changes. In either case, wear good gloves; your hands will thank you.
