Hello, I'm a new member located in New Jersey. I am interested in a used R21 and was wondering if this site has a for sale section. Will consider an older boat. My email is gary@metroquip.com.
Regards, Gary K.

Gary,
There are a number of R-21's for sale out on boattrader.com. Give them a shot.

the C-Brats site has a "for sale" section & had R-21s listed in the past. It also has many previous posts related to Rangers prior to our new Tugnuts website startup.

Thanks for the information. My budget is limited to around 20K at this time. All the used boats I have seen for sale are newer models in the 30K range. Any suggestions?

Gary,
Currently there are two listed for the mid to high 20's on Boat Trader. Remember, that is their asking price. It never hurts to look and make an offer. The worst they can do is say no.

Gary - Seems like a nice trip to Fla. is in order. Ckeck out post "1995 RANGER 21 FOR SALE".

Hello All, The 1995 boat for $22,900 looks to be in great condition. Being a newbie I'm trying to take everything into consideration before I make a decision. Boat trader has two 2003 boats listed in the mid to upper 20's. Looks like for a few thousand more I could be in a newer year boat. Any advice on price versus year would be appreciated.

Gary, these aren't like cars. Look at them both if you and pick the one that best meets your needs and for which the price seems good to you. In five years, you'll never look back.

Go for it.

Every day without a boat is a day wasted...

Hello Charlie,

You hit the nail right on the head when you mentioned cars. I have been collecting cars (Mustangs) for many years and am very familiar with buying both new and used.
Last boat I purchased was a small used Whaler about 10 years ago. All the used boats are out of my area so I was wondering if anyone has any experience with a survey? Is it worth it? Any idea of what one would cost?

Regards,
Gary K

Surveys will cost whatever the surveyor will do the job for; the cost can generally be negotiated. For a vessel the size of the R-21, it will likely run $200-300. That's the usual rate in my area, Atlanta, GA.

Some insurance companies will require a current survey purchased by the buyer. You should check that out ahead of purchasing.

I highly recommend a separate survey on the diesel engine done by a qualified individual. The most expensive item on your vessel is likely to be that engine and replacement cost may be half of the total price of the vessel.

I can't remember all of the boats I've bought and sold. Most of the time I didn't get a survey, unless the insurance company insisted. I was comfortable because most boat systems are fairly simple; if the item worked, it was OK. If it didn't, I could generally fix it myself; if not, the price was adjusted. I shy away from my judgement of expensive engines, gensets and electronics. A second opinion is a requirement for me.

Good luck,

Gene

Hi Gary, I just happen to have a 2003 R21 for sale with only 108 operating hours on her. She has always been carefully maintained including all required engine servicing. She has the 30 hp. Yanmar, mast and boom with canopy and cockpit canvas, electronics, most extras, Magma rail mount BBQ and table, and galvanized trailer with new tires and no rust. I have made several modifications to the engine, cabin, and trailer to improve on safety, convenience and storage. She has always been fresh water flushed after use, stored covered, and operated conservatively. We were very happy with the boat, however needed something a little larger and ended up purchasing an older Cape Dory 24 trailerable trawler which I towed across from, coincedentally, New Jersey. Asking price for the package, $26,000.00. kenpetric@gmail.com or 530-286-2989. Located in northern Ca.
