Hi - We have an 2016 R27 and looking to get an R31S made in the range from about 2010 to 2018 or so to try and keep the price down. Any suggestion or issues with any particular year or set of years I should avoid or gravitate to?

There is a 2017 R31-CB for sale down in Florida. I was on the boat when it was at the Lynn Yacht Club a few years ago. It has been well maintained. Captain Bobby Pelton has a post on Tugnuts. HIs contact info below.

The hard top over the cockpit came along in 2016 or 2017, so if that’s a priority over the canvas cover, that may be a consideration.

Hey Scott,

We have a 31S. Model year 2014 but built at the end of 2013. FM has made very few changes to this model over the years including the curtain fabric. Not sure where they got it, but must have bought all in existence. Here are a few things from my boat's year that is different from newer.

*Volvo Penta D4-300 (I think it is the *D4-320 now)
Sea Strainer is a Marine Hardware mounted in the floor of the boat just under the CVF.
Engine has two pencil zincs. New ones do not.
My Bathroom sink is a stainless steel under counter style. Newer boats have the blue vessel style salad bowl sinks.
*My Cockpit hard cover is only about 30" long. *Newer boats hard cover spans much further back and have skylights.
Newer boats have an additional storage locker under the oven.
Upgraded MFD and other electronics.
*Newer boats have lighter color strip around the mid section of the cabin. I have a special one that has the whole cabin gel coated in white. The other older ones have a brown gel coat that I have heard is a challenge to keep shiny.

Anything with a " * " are things that would be consideration to buy a later model.

Good luck!

Yep, that is my boat listed below.
And yes, I believe that my 2017 was the model year that went to the full hardtop over the cockpit. This was one of the requirements that we had and why we didn't want an earlier pre-loved tug. The benefits are numerous. First, it never needs replacement (I just replaced the flybridge bimini). Next, great place to have solar panels mounted. Also, plenty of room for toys. We have 3 stand up paddle boards that we stow on top. And, it gives you more room for relaxing on the flybridge (more space for the three bench seats). Two other things I'll mention about are that their is really nice recessed lighting (white and red, which makes for a great place to hang out at night and the stern most support posts are 1" stainless steel. These posts are great for mounting extra fishing rod holders or for grabbing in rough seas while moving about or fishing. Really happy we have this hard-top.

The sink is the "blue" vessel style. People seem to like this classy touch.

The engine is the 300 VP. Less than 1gph at 6 knots, 12.5 gph at 15-16 knots.

The boat is in excellent condition. I was raised as a mechanic and insist on impeccable maintenance.

We live in Baltimore. The boat is under cover in Key Largo. We are driving down next week to bring it home. Happy to show it in and out of the water when we are down there. We will be in Key Largo March 10-17.

Following that, we will bring it back to Baltimore and then list it in Boats.com and Boat Trader.

Happy to answer any questions.

Best,
Bobby
