Subject: Usefulness of the double wide helm seating
On the R27/OB and the R29 S/CB the helm seat is double wide. I'm in the process of training my son and son in law how to operate my R29 CB, and I find the double wide helm seating extremely useful during the training activities. The trainee can sit alongside me and see everything I do, while docking, undocking, and out on the water in calm and rough seas. The trainee does not have to stand and lean over to see things, and when they take the helm I can be alongside them to help them as well and not having to stand and to hold onto something.
If there are two Chart plotters on the console then access to the port side plotter is within easy reach for the trainee and if they're wearing polarized sun glasses the straight ahead viewing of the plotter's screen is easier to see clearly.
This aspect will be appreciated when you have to train someone. 🙂
Of course, there are other benefits as well; having your pet alongside you, having a grandchild alongside you, having your loved one alongside you, having your lunch bag handy, and so on. 😀
