Using existing wires as pull wires

I am trying to pull additional wires from engine compartment to helm station. I would like to know if I can reliably use existing wire(s) as pull wires then pull them back. If so, which one should I use? The boat is 2011 r25sc.
Alternate suggestions or existing blog references?

I doubt it. If the wires were run properly they should also be secured. I used a electricians snake and ran a drag line. Every time you pull a wire accompany it with another drag line so you will always have one for the next endeavor. I used a bright orange nylon twine so I can see it at mid viewing pints if necessary.

It isn't fun, but once done you will have an easier job pulling wires.

I agree with Mike. Not likely with secured runs. Also agree no matter how you get there, include a light line. Look up a "fish tape". Depending on the distance, this might work.

We found that when pulling wires the existing wires were secure. We ended up removing panels, etc. to get access to the wiring.

I use a fiberglass wire rumnning kit from Harbor Freight #65326 (on sale now for $10.00). Remove the panel on the forward side of the helm station and feed the rods along the side of the hull to the shower pump access. And then an easy feed to the starboard aft storage locker. Looked at those rods. They look like they will work better than the electricians snake since they are stiffer. In any event I would still run that drag line so once you run it the next run will be easier.

I always use a drag line to pull in the wires. Then leave one in place for the next pull. There is always a good reason to make more additions to our tugs.
