Subject: Using VHF radio's mic and Fusion speakers ?

Is there a way to use the VHF radio's mic to have speech sent to the Fusion speakers. This would be convenient when noisy conditions exist and wanting to convey info to mates in the cockpit or out on the deck.

Andrew was telling me on my new R-21EC the VHF radio and Fusion radio are connected to my Garmin 741XS as a NMEA 2K backbone has been added as part of having the Volvo Penta D1-30 engine's data being displayed on the Garmin MFD.

I can stream music playback from my phone to the Fusion radio and wonder if the VHF radio has a similar feature for relaying speech to the Fusion as well... if not, this would be a cool feature IMO.

So from what Andrew/Kenny has told me since the Fusion and VHF are tied together via the NMEA 2K backbone the Fusion speakers can be used to output what the VHF radio is receiving --- this is useful. However, the VHF radio's mic cannot be used to hail people via the Fusion's speakers... too bad as that would also be useful... it's down to yelling from the Pilot House presumably.

If your fusion has an auxilary input you could probably use a speaker level to line level input adapter between the external speaker output on the vhf radio to the auxilary input on the fusion.

External speaker for the hailer I mean.

I would think there would be a lot of feedback, since the speakers are so very close to the mic....unless, of course you muted the inside speakers and just used the speakers in the cockpit...

I was at factory today and took a photo of all the cables hanging down from the back of the fusion radio, and there are a lot.

Example (in my case)

Over the weekend I hooked up the Fusion Bluetooth module. On my Fusion system all the extra wires were labeled. Hopefully yours are too.

I would think the VHF radio has specific ohm ratings for speakers. You can buy a simple speaker that will just plug in to your VHF radio. I think all of manufacturer offer them. I would check with your radio manufacturer and get their blessing before you smoke something.

I like the idea of having a Hailer speaker mounted on top of the Pilot House or maybe the mast. I prefer the Pilot House roof as adding stuff on the mast could complicate lowering and raising it. Hopefully this can be added to the VHF radio without too much hassle.
