Using Volvo Easy Connect

Has anyone used the Volvo Easy Connect to update the Volvo software? I'm not finding anything on the app or online that helps. Looking for a link or tips.
 
Hey there, I personally have not used the easy connect before but I know Tim has. I'll have him reach out to help walk you through the process.

Got it done!
You need to have cell or wifi connection plus bluetooth to connect to the Easy Connect.
Of course you first have to know your passkey code that is on the Easy Connect device. I used my cell phone to take a picture once I found it so I could connect.
In the App with engine ignition on (does not need to be running) select "My Boat" the "Boat Details" and the software was version was in RED indicating a software update is available.
It took a while to connect so be patient must be a slow interface
It took two tries to update, first one failed so tried again and it the software is now updated.

From the FAQ on Volvo site:
"To update the Easy Connect interface, go to ‘Boat details’ in the menu to the left. Make shore that the Easy Connect app is connected to the Easy Connect interface. If there is a software update you will find it under ‘interface software’. Before starting the update, make sure the boat is safely moored, the engines turned off and ignition on. When the update is completed, restart the system to apply the changes."

Whew - got to love all these electronic gadets!

Clarification on SW update. Easy Connect updates the SW for Easy Connect. The Volvo engine SW updates require a special VOLVO Penta VOCOM interface tool.
 
Yes, I did use Volvo Easy Connect to update the software on the gateway. I used my iPad to set up an account through Volvo Easy Connect to launch the process. It took a couple of attempts to get it right. Once I did it solved a myriad of issues, including some that I was having on my Garman device related to NMEA 2000 connections between Volvo and the electronics.
 
Ok, a silly question: how would I know whether we have the Easy Connect device? (2019 C30 inboard)
 
You do have one. The Volvo Gateway is part of their EVC system and the NEMA 2000 connection that interfaces between your engine and the Garmin devices. You will connect to the Gateway via Bluetooth. Before you can do that you’ll have to find out what the passcode is. Perhaps FM has documentation on your vessel and can provide that code. It may even be in your engine manual if there are any stickers or decals indicating your particular serial numbers, etc.
