Storage pace on the 21 EC is tight so I was wondering if anyone has tried to modify the V-berth cushions. There is a lot of potential storage space under the V-berth cushions but lifting the whole cushion up is cumbersome. I was thinking of cutting the cushions in half to make access easier. In the process I was going to add about 2 inches of memory foam to each section and then have everything recovered. Has anyone tried this? Any other suggestions?

thanks for any advice,

Karl

Hello Karl

I have done just what you described. I removed the V birth cushions and cut them on a diagonal so that both pieces would be supported by the existing framework underneath. This makes getting to the storage area underneath much easier, as you would expect.

After removing the existing upholstery covers, I added 2 inches of memory foam. Then you simply reapply the bedding material to the top and sides of the foam mattress and put the upholstery back. In my case the upholstery didn't fit anymore so I ordered some Sunbrella upholstery material from Sailrite.com. Straightforward. And of the birth is significantly more comfortable now with the added memory foam.

I would say it is a very worthwhile modification.
