Subject: V-berth topper for new 2018 R-27/OB

The new 2018 R-27's V-berth stock cushions are different from the R-27 (Classic). The new 2018 R-27 now has 3 primary cushions (2 side ones and 1 fitting the bow section) and 1 that goes over the lowered V-berth table.

I'm in touch with YachtBedding that provides toppers for RT boats. Currently, they don't have the cushion patterns for the new 2018 R-27. We chatted some about how to manage the topper situation for the new 2018 R-27 given the differences in the cushions for the R-27 (Classic) and the new 2018 R-27. We did not come up with an agreed solution and I await for YachtBedding to get the new patterns and for them to think about the options.

My thoughts are...

1) Have separate topper cushions made for the 4 stock cushions.
2) The topper that would cover the V-berth's lowered extended table would normally be stowed and rolled up elsewhere in the boat. Thus allowing for the table to be raised to serve as a nice forward saloon for extra seating and eating.
3) The 3 remaining toppers would stay in place at all times to avoid having them being stowed and consuming space.
4) The topper that would cover the V-berth extended table would can be installed at bedtime.
5) Bedding would be decent sleeping bags with one edge having a full zipper making it easy getting into and zipped up.
6) In the event the 3 primary toppers need stowing having them being separate pieces will mean they're easier to fold/roll and stow.
7) In fact, it maybe unnecessary to have a topper made for the center section that covers the table when lowered if indeed sleeping on just the side cushions+topper is AOK. In this configuration the table can be left raised and its aft hinged edge folded up. Thus the raised table would be useful for placing clothing and nick-nacks on, plus it makes it real easy for each person to slide out of their sleeping bag when wanting to get up. Actually, in addition to removing the need for a topper for the table surface would also mean less cost 🙂 .

My intention is to always have the V-berth table raised as it makes for such a nice forward saloon that can double as an eating place and extra seating.

I believe the YachtBedding toppers are memory foam and some 2" or 3" thick.... but dunno for sure.

For those that have purchased toppers from YachtBedding how do you like them ?

Do others have other solutions ?

Thanks.... 🙂
