Did a valve lash (gap) check on my 2014 R21EC engine. (Volvo Penta D1-30) Normal gap is .0079 (.008") on both intake and exhaust valves according to manual. All valve were pretty much OK with the exception of the intake valve on # 1 cylinder. It was about .006". I can only see 2 reasons for a .002" difference. Improper adjustment on the initial setting or wear on the valve seat (valve itself or the head). I not a mechanic, just a do-it-yourselfer but I'm leaning towards improper adjustment at the beginning as I think it would be unlikely that the other 5 valves are bang on and this one would be worn.
Anyone have any thoughts? Is .002" considered to be much of a difference? Note: this is just a routine inspection of the gaps,,,,no unusual tappet noises to trigger the inspection.
