I have a 7612 on the bridge of my 2017 R31CB. Recently when I use the radio and hit the mic, my screen goes blurry. When I let off the mic, it goes back to normal.

Thoughts?

Thanks,
Bobby

Hi there Bobby

The issue is probably not the mike but is caused by the RF from the radio when you transmit. If this is only a recent issue I suspect that you might have a loose connector at either end of the antenna cable or possible the power supply and/or the mike cable. Make sure that all connections are tight at both ends and check to see if there has been any wear to the cable jacket at any point on the cable. This would be the most likely source of the interference to the Garmin unit. Next, check for the same from the Garmin to the radar dome. All cables act as an antenna and if the connectors and shielding is not secure you will have RF leaks/intrusions.

I assume Fluid Motion takes into consideration with wire and antenna cable routing so this should not be a common problem. If you find all cable and connectors as they should be, you can consider adding a few ferrite beads/clamps to each unit. This is a link to the general idea as to their use. http://audiosystemsgroup.com/RFI-Ham.pdf.

If you don't see anything unusual wither antenna or power cables, give Fluid Motion a call.

Hey Bobby,

I would also check the software version you currently have on the Garmin system. Currently there is a new update and is 19.1v. I would update if needed after checking connections. Hope this helps and feel free to email me if you are still having issues.

Thanks,
Kevin Lamont

Thanks for your response, Kevin. Is there a tutorial on updating the 7612? A youtube that you or anyone else can direct me toward? I have never done an update.
