Been thinking of taking my 21ec on a freighter and then running the Mekong Delta in Vietnam. Don't know how crazy this sounds. Anyone ever done this? Any advice? Any one interested in being part of a possible flotilla?

Cost? And time frame? Sounds like a great adventure! Would like to know more, please post updates.

It would be amazing!! It’s a wonderful country and to see it from the water would be epic.

Be sure to check your draft before passing Vin Drin Dop...or Lop.

In the far distant past (early 70s) I was a Peace Corps volunteer in Malaysia and traveled extensively in SE Asia. Be advised: unless you have Asian features you will stick out of the crowd. Your tug will stick out too. You will be subjected to unwanted attention. Maybe the Vietnamese culture will minimize that. I don't know, I never traveled there. If you were traveling in say India, you'd be constantly surrounded by people. I suggest you talk to the State Department about traveling in Vietnam outside of an organized group.

Rất vui được gặp .

This is "Nice to meet you" in Vietnamese. From what I can tell, the phrase sounds like this:

Rot vooey dough gap.

It would undoubtedly be a very nice phrase to be able to speak while running the Mekong!

My cousin did a "tour" in 1969 on a PBR on the Mekong.... probably calmed down a bit since then

The Grand Tour guys did a trip on the Mekong (Amazon Prime), which might be fun to watch.

Go for for it, at least unlike my cousin, you won't be getting shot at from both banks of the River...

I went to Vietnam on vacation twice in the last 5 years. It’s a remarkable country with so much culture and history, epic scenery, and out this world food that is insanely cheap. We traveled 100% on our own with no guides or assistance and encountered zero issues. The four seasons Hoi Anh is one of the most spectacular hotels I’ve ever stayed at. We visited Hanoi, Da Nang, Ninh Binh, Hoi Anh, HCM, etc. Two of the most memorable vacations of. my life. Going via boat sounds like so much fun!
