My engine is beeping and the displaying the code MID:128 SID:39 FMI:4occ. Does anyone know where I might find what the codes mean? Thanks! Anne

MID 128 message is coming from control unit programing. SID 39 engine starter motor relay FMI 4 Voltage below normal or shorted to low voltage. Fault code explanation is Faulty relay or Fault in relay circuit.

Check the connections between the starter relay and the ECU. Does the starter work and crank the engine? Check engine battery ground.

Engine cranks fine and sounds good when running. I have been able to duplicate twice when the alarm comes on.
Engine temp: 154/157
Rpm: 1500/1200
Oil pressure: 67/68
Alarm then comes on and the oil pressure drops to 31 psi
I’m starting to hone in on it. I did remove about half a quart of oil between those two findings hoping it may be the culprit. Any thoughts? Thanks! Anne

Broke down and paid the big bucks for a Volvo mechanic. Two issues. Attached is a photo of white gasket for the oil filter which was left onboard with the oil filter by the previous owner. Aside it is a black gasket from the new filter I bought. Used the black gasket and stopped the slow leak. Next, the engine codes. Between the time of the survey and me taking ownership of the boat, a new inverter was installed. When I took possession, the battery charger was fried and alarm was going off. Volvo mechanic updated the software and so far so good. Ummm, sorry no photo attached, but you get the idea.

I would assume the white gasket came with an aftermarket filter. The Volvo parts are expensive but not that expensive that it is worth while using an less expensive aftermarket part to save a few bucks. If the sealing gasket is not the same who's to say the filtering specifications of the filter are?

Another component of a small leak at the filter is there are two seals associated with the filter housing. The black tapered rubber gasket that fits in a recess, the top of the cap and a 0-ring seal that fits in a groove just above the threads in the cap. I have changed the filter several times and never noticed the O-ring. I spoke to a few Volvo technicians that did not know it was there. I went to a Volvo Dealer in Orange Beach that claims to have services many Rangers and Cutwaters with D3's and never knew or replaced the O-ring. The parts manager went as far as to check if they ever stocked the o-ring and found they had not.

The code that you were getting doesn't completely relate to the issue that fixed the problem. If it did fix the issue then it shows how a battery condition, a charging condition, a possible loose or dirty battery terminal, or ground can set a code. Some times a code that doesn't completely relate to the fix. The code that you posted related to (Voltage below normal or shorted to low voltage) The ECU related this issue to the Starter relay circuit. With electronic engines flashing codes, the first checks should be Battery condition, battery connections, ground connections and plug-in pin connections. Once all these checks are made and confirmed good and you still have the issue. It is time to call a Volvo trained technician. Hopefully a technician that knows how to troubleshoot and not throw parts at it.
