Volvo D3 Oil Pressure

Hello -

I noticed my oil pressure fluctuates.

At low RPM (700) which is idle it reads 39 PSI. As I increase the RPMs the pressure increases to a max of 70.

Is it normal to fluctuate like that?

I’ve always seen 70 psi when I’m cruising but never noticed that it backs down to 39 at idle.

I have a D4, but this is pretty normal. As the oil gets hot it moves through the system easier. Also, the faster the engine goes the faster the oil pump goes.

Completely normal. At high cruise speed 3600 rpm I would see 80psi. I have seen the pressure has low as 32psi at 700 rpm. The oil pump is crank shaft driven, flow and pressure will increase or decrease from rpm change.
