Has anyone had a fault code of '' power failure '' come up on the 4 '' Volvo screen , when starting . It beeps and makes you clear the code ; before you are able to start engine . Anyone find out the cure to this problem ? Also have low coolant warning ( level 2 '' below coolant cap top ) I will try adding a little Volvo pre-mixed coolant . Also on first fuel fill up , the gauge still reads 1/8 tank - I put in 55 gallons . The gauge was working for the last 3 weekends .I found fuel multipoint calibration and fuel tank calibration , not sure if anyone has run into it , Thanks to everyone for reading this , and hopefully someone will have Thanks Dave Cook

Hello Dave,

I've seen this before but I think it really just means low voltage. I will double check and report back. Does the code come on everything you turn the ignition on? Do you leave the boat hooked into power?

This happens on newer boats. The coolant needs to get burped through all the other lines in the system (water heater, cabin heater, and engine). It shouldn't continue to happen but if it does there may be a leak somewhere.

Are you reading the gauge on the Volvo display or chart plotter? The gauge on the Volvo display has been programmed already. On the Chart plotter you need to reset the fuel onboard after every fill up.

Thanks,
-Kenny

I had the coolant addition need for about the first 30 days and then I stopped needing to add more. The level is extremely sensitive between full and needing more

Ran into the same fuel reading after fill up this week on 28 Cutwater with Volvo......interested in the answer too.

Thanks Guys for the replies , answers to Kenny's questions -- code of power failure comes up each time I try to start engine , it happened even the first time in the water( no battery charger or power hook up ) I do leave it hooked up with the battery charger on , to keep the fridge running through the week at the marina for the last 4 weeks , this is a new ranger that I have had out 5 times in the last month . I will top up the coolant ( having a hard time finding the Volvo coolant ) and run the cabin heater which has never been on . Interesting about the fuel gauge , I was going by the display on the chart plotter , that explains why the 4 '' Volvo display amounts didn't seem similar . I will look in manual tonight , but how do you reset it ?? Kenny , Thanks for your help so far , hope there is a easy fix for the power failure as I was thinking I would have to check all power and ground connections . thanks again Dave

Just following up on the Power Failure warning.

The reason this warning comes up is do to the engines shut down procedure. The correct way to shut down is to hit the stop/start button, hit the ignition button, then turn the battery switch off. If you do NOT hit the ignition button and go straight to the battery switch the warning will come up every time you turn on the ignition again.

Hope this helps.

Thanks,
-Kenny

This post should be made a "sticky" or put someplace where it will stay permanently viewable with a title like "Avoiding Volvo Engine Electrical Problems."

Or something like "Turn off all Das Blinkin Lights before disconnecting power." Grins.
