Volvo Engine Temp jumping

Our Volvo D4-300 (2016 31S, 500hrs) Temperature on the Volvo engine panel instrument occasionally (Couple times last couple of months) jumps wildly up and down, between 80F - 185F (Never higher, but once down at 37F). No engine messages, engine runs fine at all RPM's. Temperature goes up and down instantly, so no change in actual engine temperature and no issues with Thermostat or cooling system. I am assuming it is the sensor on the engine. Has anyone else experienced this?

I have the same problem with the volvo 260 on my R-29S. I used a temperature gun to see the temp of my engine block and there was normal around 190. After a day or two of this number jumping up and down, I got an error message that says lost contact with temperature sensor. I have had others say you need to replace the sensor. I have one ordered now.
