Hi, We've got a 2015 R27 ("Widget") with a Volvo Penta D3-200A-G, which is failing to start and reports "Timing Sensor, Crank Failure -- Engine Performance may be affected" engine warnings. This doesn't happen all the time (about one out of three) but it's getting worse.

I've bought a new replacement Volvo 31331765 crank sensor, but actually replacing it looks beyond my limits. Also, I'd like a good Volvo mechanic to do it -- someone who might have a better chance at an actual diagnosis.

Anyone know the right people near Everett WA, or have you seen similar issues on your own boats?

Thanks! John Fogarty and Mary Clem (512-589-5550, johnhenryfogarty@gmail.com)

John,

I've had Northwest Diesel Power in Bellingham do work on the D3 in my R27, including the engine survey. I was impressed with their knowledge of the engine and their professionalism. I'm guessing they'd charge you for the trip to Everett, but if you can't find anybody closer might be worth considering.

I am seeing the same issue on my 2016 25sc D3-150.
Any followup on this post from a few years ago?
I have had the crank sensor replaced once last October (10 months ago) and now its failing again according to that same error message.
Or is it really failing? I have no clue whats going on.
Anyone else seen crank sensor issues or better yet multiple times across 2 difference sensors?
Thanks for any help in advance 🙂
Randy
