Noticed recently that the rubber (is it rubber or something else?) on the Volvo throttle control lever is crumbling on our command bridge station.

I tried to look up parts and unless I'm mistaken it looks like you can't just replace the handle portion and would have to replace the whole thing?

Has anyone else experienced this? Any thoughts on what I can put on it to prevent further deterioration and to fill in the areas that have already crumbled off?

Thanks!

does it sit in the sun/weather or under cover when not in use?

mines been outside for 6 years under sunbrella fabric and is in better condition then the heavily used inside one.

could that damage be animal related?

It sits under a bimini top but I suppose the sun could be hitting it from the side? Not sure whether weather deterioration or animal damage but at this point, just wondering what options there are to mitigate the damage.

Worse case scenario, I just leave it alone as it's just a cosmetic issue vs a functional one!
