Hello all,

The owner of Cook Engine Portland, OR has offered to hold a day long in person training session for owners of Volvo inboards, particularly the D-4.

This would cover hands on fuel, oil, transmission and impeller servicing. He will have a motor in a boat to demonstrate servicing and on the stand that we can literally tear apart in the learning process.

I see it as an invaluable opportunity to understand the literal heart of your vessel. We might even video it for remote learning.

Please pm me at pbnorris01@gmail.com if you are interested.

Thanks.

Patrick

To those that are showing interest, Thank you.

The first step is building a list. Keep the emails coming.

I am estimating that the total cost would be around $1000 for an 8 hour session and that would be divided by the number of participants. There will be diminishing returns with a larger class, so once we get 10 participants, we can schedule another class.

So for now, lets say the first class will be 10 participants at $100 each (just an estimate.)

Once we fill the first class, I will poll for best dates and work from there.

Any staff from Ranger who want to show a factory presence should be comped. Perhaps we could make it an "As the Prop Turns" episode.

Quick update....

Looks like there is a lot of interest. The class will be on a TBA Saturday in October, starting at 9 or 10 AM so you can drive down from the Puget sound area. It should last at least 6 hours.

There will be a boat (I hope a Cutwater) from Sundance Yachts on Hayden Island in the water to demonstrate servicing and their shop is next door for us to play with a D-4. There have been some changes over the years, so both an older and newer model will be available on the stand for us to play with.

I will start an email group for us to communicate better. If you're going to ba at Roche Harbor, see you there!!!!

Patrick

Would love to do this, but in the spring (every weekend from now to Dec. is basically booked)! Are you keeping an interested list for down the line?

Snug here. Put me down. I have a D3 but hopefully there is enough in common to teach me a few things.

I would love Ranger to open a branch office here in Portland. I think we are nearing critical mass.

Looks like there was a lot of initial interest but once the date was set, some scheduling conflicts arose.

The training will be held at Cook Engine on Hayden Island (Portland, OR) on October 16 at 1000. It should last around 6 hours and is $100.

We still have room for a few more. Please let me know if you are interested.

Many thanks.

We are still on for 10/16 at 10 AM Volvo Servicing Training at Cook Engine, 530 NE Tomahawk Island Dr, Portland, OR 97217 (503) 289-8466.

We have about 8 participants and can handle a couple more if your schedule allows. The session will last about 6 hours and cost $100.

For those of you would can't make it, I found some good videos related to D4 servicing that were posted by R31 owner Robin Shoop (do a search for his name on YouTube.) There is also a post by Robert Austen that might be helpful.

For those of you that are coming this Saturday..... See you there!

Great class yesterday Patrick. Thanks so much for setting it up. Feeling much more confident about maintenance, repairs and troubleshooting the motor. Loved being able to see the engines on stands to locate the important bits. Wish we had a Cook Marine up here in Seattle. Would highly recommend this type of training if you take your boat on longer and more remote trips.

Thanks to all who took the time to attend our Volvo training yesterday.

I think it was a valuable experience for all.

We'll try to do it again sometime soon.
