Wonder about the pros and cons of each engine if all things were equal. Maintenance hours and such. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
 
The Yanmar 6BY2 and 4BY2 engines are discontinued. So is the VP D3 engine. Major parts (e.g. a ECM) for discontinued engines may be harder to get although some BMW parts may be used in the Yanmars. As a rule of thumb VP parts are pricier than Yanmar parts.
The VP D4 and D6 engines have overall positive reviews.
