Why on the 21EC was the switch made from the Yanmar to the Volvo and then back to the Yanmar?

I heard there was a problem passing an emission test with the Volvo in the R21. I can not attest to this so maybe others can verify what I heard.

I asked the Volvo representative at the Volvo display at the Toronto boat show and he said they had a problem meeting California specs for a brief period, maybe six months, but now have it all resolved. I guess Ranger needed engines and could not suspend production for that long. Perhaps they will go back to the Volvo. There sure are more Volvo repair centres up here than for yanmar, as well as parts availability.

John, agree - I have a Volvo(4.3 gas) in my boat and there seems to be lots of dealers around. I also have one of the 3 cyl. Yanmars on my genset with over 18,000 hrs. on it. The company I bought it from - Genco Generators is now owned by the TT Power Group in Wellesley. They are a great company to deal with. The technician that installed it years ago still services it. A phone call to explain the problem and he arrives with whatever parts he thinks he'll need. Always gets it back up running that day.

Any Tugnuts in our area with the Yanmar can visit them for parts or if you need a technician that knows these engines inside out give them a call and ask them to send Lewis. Their rates are reasonable and they offer 24/7 service although after hours the price increases.

Regards, Rob
