My Webasto Heater went out this weekend. Researching on Google it appears to be a wattage fault or a non-start fault. The system seems pretty sophisticated from the manuals that came with my boat. I called my local yard team who said they have a lot of experience installing a repairing these heaters. The system worked beautifully up until this weekend. Once it hit going it would easily take the chill off the cabin air on low or very quickly heat everything up good and toasty on high. I hope this isn’t a big deal to repair but anytime I have to call my mobile yard guys it’s at least $300 - $500 (and more) to get things fixed.

Is this the 2-burner cook top & closed lid heater Webasto?

For a non-start fault, it may work simply to try again later. It can be due to air in the fuel line or (it seems) conditions such as high winds. I've had this happen after disconnecting the fuel line, and on one or two other occasions. After another attempt or two, it cleared up. There is also a reset sequence that I can't recall.

Accessing them to work on can be difficult, so hopefully the simple options will work out!

You don't say exactly what code but I had a faulty start and no flame error during the November and December months.

I finally was successful using an diesel additive to dry up the water, changed the filter twice, and tried over and over and over...until it worked. It was definitely bad fuel. As others have said it makes sense to keep the diesel tank full and use an additive.

In the Facebook group for RT 27OB you can find the post and useful comments.

Try to drain the fuel. Add a drying additive. Change the filter. Keep trying to start.

Could be several reasons. Low voltage, clogged filter, no fuel, clogged glow plug. Check all connections and make sure you have good voltage going to the unit. How old is filter? If it has never been changed, change it. If you get your fuel from the main tank, how much fuel do you have? On my tug (R-27) if the fuel went below 35 gallons I lost prime. If you do not put the heater on high before shutdown coke buildup can happen at the glow plug. If you get it started run it at high for a bit and always before shutdown. If you got an error several times to try to start. the unit will shut down. To reset you need to remove both fuses, wait about 30 seconds and reinstall. That should reset the unit. If your problem was the filter or loss of prime, you may have to do the startup sequence several times, hence removing the fuses after a complete shutdown. It can take a while for the fuel to get to the burner. Let us know how you make out.

Turns out the fuel pump went out. I ran the tank pretty low (under 5 gallons) and the Webasto heater didn’t like that. My mechanic encouraged me to keep the tank topped off to avoid future supply line issues with the heater. $145.00 and it works like new….live and learn as they say. Thanks everyone for the feedback.

Glad it was so simple, and thanks for sharing back the solution!

Knotflying said to turn it on high before shutdown. On another thread someone said to just run it on high all the time and then just shut it off. Thats what I've chosen to do after I took mine apart to clean the carbon out of the burn chamber. It was a snotty job. I had to do it on the galley table because one wire plug would not come out. The carbon is light and blows easily so you don't want any carbon to land on your seat or anywhere. You will perform that job eventually, so you may as well burn it hot and kick the can down the road just a little further!⁶
