Has anyone replaced the standard stove on their 21EC with a Wallas heater/stove? It is not listed as a factory option on the 21. Is that because it is too big?

Ive wondered that too. Looking at Wallas' site, they have smaller cooktops.

We had a smaller, single burner Wallas stove/heater in our 1999 MacGregor 26X sailboat, if that helps. It was great, which is why we insisted on one in the Tug - and we operate on kerosene rather than the diesel.

Hi there! This is my first ever posting so here goes...

Our little Red Current was the floor model at the 2008 Seattle Boat Show. As such it came with a number of options, including the larger 40 HP motor, dodger top and built in head. One of the things we were particularly interested in is the Wallas Stove (as in the C Dory 22'). As part of our purchase Andrew had the single burner Wallas kerosene heater/stove installed. It has worked out wonderfully! It does involve raising the seat spacers by a couple of inches and raising the footrest as Andrew could attest. We are very happy with this arrangement.

This is the first mention I've seen of a 40 hp engine for the R-21 EC. Can you share some performance data with us? And maybe a physical description, specs, etc.

Thanks,

Gene

Likewise - what is the deal with the 40HP engine? I've often wondered what sort of performance would be attained if something around 50 HP were installed. I'm sure that there is a hull speed which would make adding HP somewhat limited, but a bit more oomph would be great. Would the present hull design achieve 12 Kts cruise? At what HP?

The 40 in our boat might have been a one off experiment by the good folks at Ranger Tugs to see what it would do.Not having run a 30, I'll have to go with their word that its only good for an extra knot or so. Anyone who is hoping it will jump up and outrun a C-dory has probably bought the wrong boat. Probably its strong suit is that it will do much the same as the 30 while working a little less and holds its immense speed under heavier loads. I have run it up a couple of 9 knot tidal rapids ( Boat pass off Saturna Island and Malibu rapids at Princess Louisa Inlet) and it certainly punched its way through comfortably. Having said that ,I would certainly want to try them both before I spent extra pesos on the larger motor.
Like I said, it was an existing package, and we are very happy with it.
Cheers, B.C. Bruce
