Wallas Woes!

My personal opinion after using the Wallas for 4 years...............
I seldom use it for cooking, but use it mainly for heat in winter.
It is hands down the best way to heat the boat at anchor.
The reset issue is a non issue.
The only time I had to reset the stove is when it was new.
Most likely someone at the dealer attempted to start the stove multiple times with no fuel in the tank.

The exhaust pipe under the stove does get hot, but not hot enough to start a fire.
It will get hot enough to melt plastic, if a platic item is in direct contact with the exhaust pipe.
Don't store plastic items or beer under the stove, and you will be fine.
Store pots and pans under the stove, and other items that don't mind heat.

One thing I wish the factory did different with the Wallas, they should plumb it into the main diesel tank.
And maybe they to on new model tugs.
On my 2007 R25 the Wallas has it's own dedicated fuel tank that holds about 3 gallons of fuel.
Three gallons lasts less than 2 days if you are using the stove as a heater, and the tank is a pain to refill.

I agree with just about all that bbrh842 posted.

I've used my Wallas for almost 2 years now on my 2010 R25.

My additional comments...

1) I did have a start issue when new but that was it as it has fired up flawlessly since.
2) Ensure you don't have a fender near the hull exhaust port as it could deform or melt.
3) I use my Wallas for cooking and it does a fine job.
4) I use it occasionally for heating and it perform very well here for the PNW cool days. When using it as a cabin heater keep anything away from the surface adjacent to the heated hot air exhaust that might not absorb heat well as that area gets very hot.
5) Use a long spout funnel for refilling the Wallas fuel tank.

I prefer the Wallas as apposed to a propane gas heating/cooking unit (personal choice).

I've used the following ...
-charcol bbq mounted on a rail...dirty, hard to start at times and always needed to wait, basic but effective
-Propane " " " " ... small tanks often leaked, costly, worked ok but clunky
-pressurized alcohol...really scary to light, stinky, slow to heat anything, serious water vapour in air.
-non-pressurized alc...slow, messy, wastes a lot of fuel from evaporation vapour,
-all elec...shore power ok ... otherwise useless(backup was non- press. alc)
-portable single butane camp stove...fuel gets pricey, look out for leaks...store fuel cans outside only. worked great
-Propane/ CNG...expensive to install correctly, works great, not worth the expense for infrequent use. leaks can be fatal

Wallas sounds pretty good to me given the alternatives...even uses what the boat uses for fuel.

So! The Wallas has a secret ECU built in. These things will soon command all aspects of our lives. Actually, maybe they already do...

You want to be sure that the battery is up at full charge--which is at least 12.6 volts (not 12 volts). It may help to have the battery charager on, or even run the engine to get the battery voltage up, and that will give faster ignition.
