Sleeping late this morning....after all it was after 6 AM.
 
Quite a wind event last evening and this morning. Sustained North winds of 36 with gusts to 49. Willie's Tug is side tied to our low dock that is usually about 12 inches above mean high tide. Well during the evening we had about 3 inches of water over the dock. We doubled up on all our lines and and used all of our fenders. All night we continually adjusted the fenders to keep Willie off the pilings and dock. Between adjustments we prayed and checked our insurance policy. Currently the wind is down a bit at 21 gusting to 29 so it is a bit calmer in our "protected channel". Praise God, Willie's Tug survived with nary a scratch, but Walldog is a bit tired this morning.
 
Quite a blow last night, and all that water from the Laguna Madre blowing into your canal. Same situation here, but we have the protection from the bridge to the Sea Cottage row. Just to make things fun, though, our next door neighbor came in just after suset... with his twin engine, large center console, and not a single fender or line ready. I held his boat while he tried to figure out which way to turn the engines to try to pull the boat closer to his dock. He thought I was being nice - I was trying to keep him from ramming into Wild Blue. He normally keeps that boat at the marina (dry storage) across the ICW, but got there after they were closed and didn't want to leave the boat with the keys in it. On the bright side, he left today while we were out... at the low tide... likely dragging skegs along the way... with Wild Blue immediately down wind from him. Oh, and he never did put out any fenders. :shock:

The water got to within an inch from the lower part of our dock. I added more fenders and two more lines before going to bed. We drove over to the island this afternoon - the water is looking nasty right now (yes, you have that view all the time).

Glad to hear Willie's Tug was unscathed. Get some rest. Talk to you later.

Glad to read that your boat is OK. Having been to your home and seen your dock I can picture in my mind what took place. Is this a rare event? Maybe if you have warning in the future you can move your boat to safer moorage or get it on your trailer. Sounds like you had a very long night but your efforts were rewarded, good on you.
 
We have been keeping our new Ranger Tug 27 at our low outside dock. Works fine except when a Norther blows through and we have tremendous currents, turbulent waters and winds that cause Willie to move about a little too much for my comfort. The extraordinary high tides during the Norther makes for constant tending with a fixed dock. Using the lift inside the boat house required some modifications that we just completed enough to make this her permanent home.

As you can see Willie's Tug just fits with very little room to spare. We will fine tune the project in the next few days, but as you can see it works. Today with wind out of the Northeast and two foot waves or so in the bay, she is snug in her new home.
 
Herb, I gotta tell you buddy, your boat looks soooo nice tucked into its new home. The boat color goes good with the house too.

Thanks Russ, now we have opened up your spot at our dock if you ever get back this way!
 
Willie's Tug is at El Jefe's Cantina and Marina for the night. Looking for dinner in the cantina shortly. We plan to leave at first light in the morning for Port Aransas (Corpus Christi). We will be staying at Island Moorings for a few days and maybe going as far as Kemah (Houston) next week. Anybody along the way is welcome to join us at any time.
 
From what I remember you have a lot of straight runs with tiny corrections and the scenery is much the same. But you are on the water with your best friend (and Jake) so life is good, we envy you. Please post photos here or in your blog.

The weather here is still a little nasty for good cruising.
 
Sounds like fun! Sorry we're about 1348 miles away or we'd love to be cruising with you. Have fun, post some photos; tell the dolphins we said, "Hi!" 😀

After a great dinner at El Jefe's last night and a Dolphin view filled day up the ICW, Willie's Tug is safely secured in Island Moorings ahead of the Norther coming through tonight. 30 or so knot winds and rough waters forecasted for the next two days.

I saw that forecast for the area... a good time to be tucked in somewhere out of it. Are Skip and Nancy at IM? No wind to speak of here in the desert... oh, and no water. 🙁 Take care and tell Jake that Izzy says "Hi".

Skip returned to IM about the same time we arrived. His boat has been in drydock for a couple of months with a fuel leak that required removal of an engine to get to the problem. He and Nancy are back in their slip moving furniture back into their living room. Lot to be said for a smaller boat...grins. But I do not have a couch and wish I did. uh David.

Jake was on the dock this afternoon and a guy and his small dog slipped upon him and scared him with his dock cart. Jake barked. The little dog ran. And the guy told Jake to calm down. Jake is grounded to the cockpit for tonight. Tell Izzy, she probably thinks that is a good idea.

At least you are not in South Dakota. Gusty winds up to 55 mph and 4 inches of new snow.
 
We actually got nearly a foot of snow in a lot of places...we got about 8 inches but missed some of the wind. I am really envious of y'all in the south. Boating is at least 2 full months away and really more like 3+ before the water gets to the point where immersion is not a life-threatening adventure. I follow all the winter adventures here and really enjoy them. Thanks!
