Guys, something strange is happening. Our twi Yamaha 300s turn on their own unless I keep pressure on the wheel. It isn’t drastic, but they do “creep” noticeably. The auto pilot is off, so I don’t think it is that. What the hell could cause this? We first noticed it at low speeds and in neutral.

What direction do they turn?

Both ways. There is no pattern.

Do you have a second steering station? And a practical joker messing with you?

I do have a second steering station, but no practical joker. That would have been easy to remedy.

Pure speculation here - have you checked your steering fluid reservoir for leaks?

I think I did, but I may have been looking at the auto pilot reservoir.

Hi Stuart.
Likely you have some air in your hydraulic lines and need to add hydraulic fluid to your steering station. Since you have a second steering station I can’t give you the procedure, but you can tell if you need it by opening the helm filler cap located right behind your steering wheel (Check both stations). If you open it and its not pretty much full then look up online how to add fluid with two steering stations and the air removal procedure
Hope that helps!
Jim

Thanks, Jim. I’ll have a look.
