We just had our 2014 R-27's motor serviced for the first time by Forked River Diesel in Waretown New Jersey. The boat only had about 12 hours on it as it was a leftover demo sort of thing. Because the motor was researched and found to have been produced in 2013 I thought it was best to have the impeller changed, oil changed, and fuel filter. Along with a general check over before putting too many hours on it. A fresh start I thought. While in the process of doing the impeller change the tech noticed the raw water hose feeding the engine was being rubbed by one the motor pulleys. It was not going to be long before being rubbed through. That would not have been pretty. So my question is if engine damage would have occurred who gets the bill? Not Volvo's problem they did not install the hose. Who ever installed the engine should have never had the hose anywhere near the spinning pulley. Would it be my fault if I did not notice the engine temp going up before doing the damage. Who was I going to have to argue with? Ranger would have been my only choice. I just wonder if the normal Pre delivery inspection would have caught it? I had a premonition about getting service done before using the boat much. Having purchased the boat in late April all the Volvo Penta dealers were very busy on the east coast with the start of the boating season being Memorial Day which came early this year. It was hard waiting to use with the new boat until I got someone to fit me in the schedule. Getting the professional service prevented the hose from failing on our upcoming Trent Severn / North Channel trip. I'm sure being in Canada would have contributed another layer in to the getting the whole matter resolved. I'm not complaining just wondering how this would have been resolved had I not had the impellor service done. Not a lot of room on the front on the engine for something like that being easy to see. I think I have a coolant flow sensor in my future.

I just wanted to say Ranger Tugs have been great to us. I just thought it was worth passing along my thoughts about getting a new boat checked out before you put to many hours on it. We were glad we did. It saved everyone involved a lot of grief. I in no way meant to put Ranger Tugs in a bad light. They have been great to us.

This is a great forum to post things like this so dont hesitate to do so. In the future, please also send it directly to myself or our warranty manager so we can identify problems like this in our shop to determine if this is a one off or something we need to address on other boats.
