I added a 3/4” ball valve to the inlet side of my washdown pump. The pump shares raw water with the engine and without the ball valve to shut off the water to the pump, there is a possibility to suck air backwards through the pump to the engine. I found that the original install looked like the hoses were pushed on to a threaded fitting. After removing the inlet fitting I found it was a fitting with a hose barb beyond the thread! I cut off the barb and threaded the valve on. While doing all this I discovered the main raw water ball valve leaks a bit. Water ran continuously out of the hose while I worked on the washdown pump. Looks like next haulout i need to change out that valve. Very surprised that the washdown pump had no way of isolating it from the engine.
