TugFest 2010 resulted in our winning a washdown pump in the raffle. I wonder where the factory mounts these units on an R21 and where the hose outlet is placed?

Congratulations! I'll be watching to see what the response is on that.

We do not install a washdown pump in the R21. This would be all up to you to decide where you want to put the pump and add the thru hull. If you have an operational head, I would tee into that existing thru hull up forward in the v-berth. If you dont have this, you will need to install your own.

John,

The 25's have the pump coming off of raw water filter. This would keep you from having to put an extra thru hull in...just a thought course the next question would be would it be worth replacling the raw water filter with one that has 2 or 3 ports....Good luck. I hope that pump comes in handy my friend!

Ciao!

I have a plan that I have been working on incorporating the thru-hull that feeds the potty. Will post photos when all is complete. Drew, we can have a water-fight when I am "armed" too. Or, better yet, lets attack the pirate lair at Port Orchard next September...just a thought.

Interesting, I just installed The Johnson washdown kit from the factory in my 2008 right next to the air conditioning cooling pump. I have pictures if you want me to send them or post here. I mounted the outlet on port side aft of the cabin left of the open door right of the step. that way the hose reaches forward and aft, great for washing of the anchor.

I recommend you do NOT use the same thru hull that services the engine for engine cooling. You could starve the engine cooling and then overheat/burn up the engine.

Good Morning to all!

John, Gail and the rest of you scurvy dogs.....a water cannon attack on the PO pirates sounds like a fun time...I look forward to finding a tactical genuis in our midst to plan it! 😀

Rick, Don't disagree with your statement in general. However, that is how the factory set the 25's up and it hasn't been an issue. All of the raw water comes off of 1 thru-hull. Also, I have never utilized the raw water washdown while underway, so creating an issue of starving the engine of cooling water is moot. Not knowing the 21 well, it may be a completely different system/setup and if I am off base, apologize. Just thinking out loud!

Happy friday to all!

Drew

Purist will tell you that for each device that requires raw water, each device should have its own thru hull. For people that are not so pure, they say the thru hull for engine cooling should be sacred and not be shared with anything else. Any remaining shared thru hulls should be gauged depending upon the anticipated water demand.

I guess you can configure them any way you want as long as you and your guests are aware of the consequences. (I caught my grand-kids continuously flushing the toilet - they thought it was neat. It didn't take long for the tank to fill. :? )

My R21-EC has two thru hulls. One in the cockpit for the engine and one under the bunk for the toilet. I have been thinking about adding a pump to the forward thru hull for water wash down of the deck, and the anchor/rode.

OK all you washdown pump fans. I have completed the task and have posted the results on my website under upgrades. If you are interested in the final result go view the photos, but I don't need to clutter up this thread any longer. Thanks for your input and ideas.
