Anyone know if alot of water should discarge while at idle spped? At higher rpms water comes out of exhaust but not at all at idle. Checked impeller and it's fine. No overheating issues but just want to make sure. Thanks

In my R21 Classic, there is 2/3 the amount of water discharge at idle as there is at speed. I always confirm the discharge before I leave the dock, and check it frequently underway.

Hello Belajude,

YES water should be discharging out exhaust ANYTIME the engine is running. Allowing for a few seconds between the 'spirts' of water, my 21EC is ALWAYS ejecting water in the exhaust (unless I forgot to open the thru-hull...YIKES!)

Are you saying your boat ejects NO WATER while idling? Could the raw water pump belt be slipping, etc.?

I'd be concerned about that.

Just my $0.02.

I had similar problem with my 21. I pulled the cover on the pump and looked at the impeller and it looked OK. Finally after trying many other things I took the cover off of the pump again and realized that the impeller was installed with the blades facing in the wrong direction. That is the blade tips were being pushed instead of being pulled. It would pump water at fast speeds but not at slow speeds. It never caused the temp light to come on.

Sorry to admit that I had been the last person to install the impeller. Switched it around and it pumped water at all speeds.

correct no water at all during idle, thanks for help, must be something I'm missing

Try closing the seacock while your boat is at dock and then unscrew the sea strainer cap and set it aside. Now open the seacock lever and see if you have a full flow of sea water. If you do then your problem is north of the sea strainer. If you have no flow then you may have a clogged or blocked thru hull fitting or hose and the problem is south of the seacock. Close the seacock lever. If the problem is south of the seacock, with the seacock closed unscrew the hose clamp and work the water hose loose so you can try and clean the clog out. I've had this happen with seagrass. Whatever the final problem is let us know what it was and how you fixed it.

OK thanks for the help. Turns out there was a backlash of air in the system, Mechanic pulled hose going into water pump and sucked it until water flowed. Thinks it got air through the strainer.
