Actually two questions about water getting to the bilge. Plus invitation to other comments about the water system.

On my 2012 R-27 how does water that spills on the floor of the v-berth footwell drain?
Does it drain?
I was able to mop it up with towels but there is some residual water hiding around (and under) the flooring.

Also, I discovered a leak in the hose connection to the external fresh water hook up fitting. It only leaks when the fresh water pump is energized. I'm not sure how long that has been going on. Only last week did the fine spray from the leak splash over into the undersink cabinets. And I noticed that the pump cycled when I didn't use any water. I was able to get under there and disconnect and plug the hose. (Removed the sink - not a difficult task) I'll remove and replace the external fitting this coming winter. (I've never used it. Heard that it is a dangerous feature?) At that point I hope to find out why it was leaking. So here's the next question: Where does the water that is spilled into that space behind and under the cabinets go?

Note: I tied up that plugged hose with a good piece of reliable nylon string. I've got the feeling that if it fell loose down into that space I'd never find it or be able to reach it again. I'm thinking of screwing a hose bracket to the rear panel of the cabinet just for extra safety.

There are two weep holes aft of the v-berth cabin floor. As far as the shore water fitting goes, I never have used it. I am not sure where it is fed from, but plugging it and securing it so you don't lose it is a good idea. The water that may have dispersed should have run down to the bilge.

I'll have to look again. Hope I find the holes.
It seems like drains up there would be a good idea. There are drains in the port and starboard v-berth storage areas.

As far as using the shore water supply directly.... I have read posts warning about high shore pressure blowing a hose fitting and that pressure regulators are a very good idea. Also the danger of something blowing loose and the entire water supply of the county is suddenly and continuously available to sink your boat.

I am still a bit concerned about the flooring panel being wet underneath?
Is it just glued down and can it be taken up?

Thanks knotflying.

I happen to be sitting in my slip on my 2012 R-27 so I took a quick look.

There are no visible weep holes for drainage, but I will bet they are just under the teak flooring in the outside aft corners which is where they were on my R-21. I'm guessing you have to pull up the flooring to get to them. Alternately it may be easier in the long run to just drill a few new holes.

Cheers,
Mark

Go cautiously if you do decide to add holes. If I'm not mistaken the liner in the veeberth is identical on the classic 25 and 27. On my 25 the inside of the hull is right up against the liner where the drain holes go through it. It would be awfully easy to pop a hole right through the hull. Which might result in the veeberth deck getting wetter rather than drier.

Isn't the water tank up there starting at the aft wall of the footwell and extending aft?
Not drillin'.
