Dumb question: Is there a switch to turn ON water heater? I was told it takes 10 mins to heat water (preset temp) for general use, 20 for shower, but is it ON whenever connected to shore power or running gen.? If so, does it just shut OFF when the 5+ gals. is hot, until either back on shore power or gen.? Does it just keep cycling to maintain water temp?
Thanks again.

Isn't there a breaker on your panel?

Pretty certain it only heats on shore power. But it is fairly insulated and we always have hot water for a day or two after we've been off shore power and are not using a lot of hot water.

I have a switch for the hot water heater on the 120 side of my breaker panel. I have tp turn the breaker on before mine will heat. I only use it when I am connected to shore power, so I don't have any experience about using it underway.

A word of caution. My water heater gets the water scalding hot in as little as 5 minutes and, if I have one, I have no idea where the temperature control for the heater is - other than to put the faucet handle in the desired position.

I could not get mine to work. Finally I took the cover off where the electrical goes into the hot water heater. I wanted to see if there was a reset button. Took a bit to find it because it is so small. It is not mentioned in the instructions. It is about the size of a sharp pencil. Pushed it in to reset and has worked ever since.
Be sure electrical is off before taking off cover. Hope that helps.

Be sure tank has water in it!

If I misunderstood your question - yes it shuts off when temp is reached. On mine there is a +- knob on the heater itself. I have left mine on for days with no issue.
But the reset button comment above is good to keep in the back of your mind as well.

New to my R27 and haven’t used the water heater yet but I was under the assumption that heater works off both the engine heat and shore power.

Are you asking if the water heater comes on while running the outboard? If that is your question, then no, the outboard will not transfer heat like the inboard diesels do.

On the R27 you can only heat water from shore power, and you need to turn the breaker on/off manually.

If you also have a generator installed the hot water heater will work off that as well. It is true you need to manually turn on the breaker but once on it will automatically turn on and off as needed to maintain temperature. You would then turn the breaker off when you don't anticipate needing hot water for the remainder of the trip.

Excellent info....thanks SO much everyone. Ahhh a nice hot shower sounds good.
