Hi all,

I'm trying to solve a mystery, and not sure where to start investigating. I was out for the weekend in my 29S, and when I pulled bedding out of the cave I noticed that the bedsheet was wet. (Insert joke here...)
The water was in the forward inside corner of the cave. I believe this would be somewhere beneath the helm seat area. There was some mildew on the carpeted forward wall of the cave, and the underside of the mattress was wet. I don't recall anything being spilled in the vacinity, but I don't see how an exterior leak could show up in this particular location. Could there be any fittings nearby that could leak? Any input on this would be very helpful.

On an unrelated note, I had a guest this weekend who clearly didn't hear my "toilet paper only in the head" instructions, and an unknown number of wet wipes were flushed. I just found out on the last day when I flushed the head and it made a very unhealthy sound. I'm going to explore the problem (fun times ahead...) but want I know if I could try to snake the head before I start disconnecting things. Would that do more harm than good?

Thanks in advance for any advice on either of these issues!

Fishpants,

Does your R29S have air conditioners? If so, then the one forward of the mid-berth might be overflowing its condensation pan.

Otherwise, many people have found that leaks in the mid-berth have come from the small lights along the exterior of the cabin just above the gunwales. Pop these lights off and apply some silicon and re-install. For this to be the problem, the water would need to move in a mysterious way; however, water sometimes does that.

If you have the Raritan Sea-Era head, the macerator/cutter is just beyond the bottom of the bowl. A snake would probably damage the cutter head. It is likely that the wet wipes are wrapped around the cutter and are clogging the pump. You may have to remove parts to get to the cutter.
