Has anyone installed a water maker on their Cutwater or RT boat? With a month in Princess Lousia / Desolation on the calendar for later in summer, we are having a bit of freshwater range anxiety. There are obviously lots of places to refill the water tank, but i'm curious if others have installed a water maker and to get more details on that. I have been looking at the Katadyn PowerSurvivor 40E. It will do 40gal/day, and only uses 32w of 12v power per gallon. I have a lot of questions about the plumbing, etc. You definitely don't want to run this directly into your freshwater tank as if it fails, you're going to have some salty water! I may not get to this this season, but just seeding the thoughts..

Hey Dave. See you up there this summer.

We have been fine with water up there over the past ten years (usually up there and the Broughtons for a month with the exception of covid) First, we just plan to be in a marina every 4-5 days, but we also have a bunch of collapsible 2.5 gallon water containers. We fill them before we go and stuff them into various places (fender locker at the bow, lazarettes, even under the bed) and just dump them into the tank when needed. Low tech, but effective, and they stow well the rest of the time.

Next boat will have a water maker however.

We had a 12v water maker on our last boat. Everybody has different budgets, requirements, and tolerance for complexity/maintenance. Ours was purchased from and installed by Emerald Harbor Marine at Elliott Bay Marina. I suggest you give Larry Schildwachter a call. He did a great job of describing all the options and helping us select the right unit for us.

Cheers,

Bruce

Thanks both! I may take Jeff's advice for this summer, and Bruce's for the fall/winter to prep for next season!
