On the Yamaha outboards it is recommended to change out not only the impeller but worn housing, gaskets, seals, O rings, etc. if needed. The complete kit from Yamaha is priced around $250.00 and a Sierra kit is around $150.00. A couple of questions…..besides the impeller and O rings have others done a complete kit service? Any thoughts on the Sierra kit vs Yamaha kit?

I talked to a couple of Yamaha mechanics I know and they recommended the kit vice individual parts. Said the housing won't last all that long and should be replaced. I plan to do it myself next time, but I hired to have it done the first time so I could watch. I'm sure after watching that I'll do the kit myself rather than just a few parts. The housing isn't very substantial.

On a previous boat with Volvo inboards I always did the impellers myself. The housing was rock solid and it was simple to replace them. Not as simple on the Yamaha, but doable.

Like you Hookedup I’ve always replaced my impellers but this is the first time with an outboard. I watched a few YouTube videos and it appears to be straight forward therefore I’ll continue the project as a DIY. Anyone else have thoughts and or suggestions on full kit vs just the impeller and O rings and or the Yamaha vs Sierra kits? Any first hand experience?

Thanks Craig, that’s all I needed to verify that it’s not worth going with the Sierra kit vs the Yamaha. The difference in cost is not worth the risk, based on the testing done on both kits. Thanks again.
