We Need Help Recalibrating Our Garmin Autopilot

Get Garmin support on the phone while you're doing it. They walked me through step-by-step, they know the procedure backwards and forwards and they can answer questions along the way. After I was done, my auto pilot can steer me out of a tight Harbor most of the time anyway. That's very useful in pea soup fog, however, you never want to trust anything completely.

Good advice above. One thing to note on boat crabbing. Much of this can be caused by current/wind. At both time of calibration and use. If the boat is crabbing it might be normal

Also if you are miss trimmed port starboard this can also cause the crabbing. Remember there is a prop spinning in one direction that the boat counteracts.

Doc,

My 5215 has the boat crabbing issue and the Auto Pilot and ChartP are off by 10-30 degrees.

I have a new to me 2013 RT31cb, assuming our CCU’s are in the same place on the boat. I cannot find the CCU. Searched in the wooden cavities behind the wooden bulkheads — after removing the top and bottom drawers closest to the fridge, and, I went into the cave and searched behind the small carpeted panel where the Air Con unit sits… looked in the Starboard Lazarett… No CCU ball…

When I first got the boat, I didn’t have issues, so I have been moving the metal objects around. I did update the system… I updated it again and turned the house battery off for 10 minutes…

I am going to purchase a flexible camera for future search work.

Thank you for any advice in advance.
Hello AGLyme, your Garmin CCU (Reactor 40) should be located directly in front of the fresh water tank (at least it is on the 2024 model) This is accessible by removing the carpeted panels in the aft berth. You may want to confirm with the factory its location on your 2013 model.

Thank you !
I did look behind the small carpeted panel on the most forward wall of the aft berth — panel is fastened by Velcro.
I searched around there and nada…
Will pull the air grate next to it this week and see if it is in there.
I just ordered a 10 foot long snake camera… hopefully I find it.

Andrew, I'll give you a call. Unfortunately I've become the "resident expert" on these according to our Garmin rep.

Ha… a blessing and a curse for you, thank you Greg
