What are folks using to get weather, tide and current information? I did a quick search here and didn't find much info. I don't have my boat yet, due by end of April, but I am trying to get what I can to be as ready as I can be before it arrives. I haven't had any boat larger than a 21' skiff before, that I never took out for more than a few hrs at a time and I have no idea what is out there. I bought an iPad and loaded a few navigation apps on it and I am looking to see what folks are using to get weather info. Please post up what app, and extra features, you are using.

For the iPad I use Storm app.

If I were in Cushing ME, I'd want to check here before I left the dock: https://www.weather.gov/gyx/
Not that I'd be going out today around here...64 mph at 1454 at the Naval Academy.

I have a weather station at my house, winds presently blowing 20-25 with gusts to 30+, waves forecast to be in the 12-17ft range... I wouldn't be going anywhere today or tomorrow. We planning on some week long trips and want to be able to get weather when out on the boat.

Plus 1 for Windy and strong endorsement for NWS/NOAA reports like this. Find those most relevant to your cruising grounds and refer to them for planning and decision support.

We also use the Dark Sky app - it's location aware but allows you to search other locations. It provides short range forecasts for wind, temp, precip, as well as an animated radar which zooms in and out and lets you see how fronts are forecast to move.

Cheers,

Bruce

Windy here as well, and also Windfinder pro and Marine Weather apps.

Which 'Storm' app? I have found app's from 4 different vendors titled "Storm".

Take a look at sail flow.

Two more marine weather apps to consider:
1. PredictWind
2. Wunderground

I use the NOAA website on my iPad for traveling around the Chesapeake Bay. I have not looked at Maine but I would think NOAA would provide similar tools for that area. Some of the tools include an overall marine forecast, graphical wind and wave height forecast, tides and current forecast and current bay conditions from buoys positioned around the bay.

For local current and forecast winds I use the iOS app “WindAlert”

For radar I use the iOS app “MyRadar” which also provides an overlay for tropical system paths
