Hi - Got a 2013 R31 this spring that needs work and have been bringing it back in shape. The latest deal is with the Weaver davit system that I had the marina install. First, one of the "upper" pads ripped off (that go to the bracing rod) and, today, the "lower" one that holds the dinghy to the swim platform was ripped off when I got to the boat. And, the other "lower" one is partially failed. All this at the slip so no waves or anything.

Anyone have issues like this with these? I am trying to get the contact cement they used off (from both the dinghy and the Weaver pads) and it is very hard to get off. Any help from anyone who might have had this issue would be most appreciated. Thinking of rough sandpaper?? Acetone does nothing.

We are going on a one month cruise up the Maine coast Wednesday and I really need to have this fixed. Thinking they used the wrong cement but really can't find out until Monday. The dinghy is a PVC one. Thanks!!

You might try MEK. It is stronger than acetone. I would stay away from sandpaper. I'm going on 4 years with my pads, so far so good. The dinghy dealer installed the pads so I can't help you with what glue was used. One thing I did was instead of 2 upper pads for the standoff brackets, I only use one and the 2nd attachment point is bolted to the transom of the dinghy. Depending on where you're dinghy is positioned, that configuration may not work for you.

I had a failure on my dingy in a particularly hard spot for attaching the pad. It was also in a spot the takes the weight of the dingy. I was boating at the time and went to West Marine and found “Forespar universal adhesive for Hypalon and PVC”. I was skeptical but it worked great and has had no problem since. I installed it with the dingy deflated and clamped it in place with a large woodworkers wood clamp. Left it for several days in the back of my truck. It is much better than the first installations I did with the adhesive I got from Weaver. I used sand paper to get the old adhesive off, but I was not perfect in the conditions I was working, but still worked great.

i have the same issue.
Forespar is no longer available.
