Our Portland Pudgy has arrived, but we're not sure if the hardware we received will work. I've read a few responses in regards to this topic on the R-29, and it seems that the 4" extended davit heads are mandatory to clear the horizontal fenders on the swim step. I've also read a couple responses regarding the height of the davit heads. Weaver can fabricate them up to 4" high, but I'm wondering what is really needed on the R29 to clear any water while underway at speed with the bow up. Is there anyone out there with a R-29 (AND a Pudgy...AND Weaver davit heads) that can advise?

Hi Kelly and Rich

You are correct the 4 inch are required to clear the built in fenders. With this configuration you are good at any speed. Our boat is heavier than most on the back due to the hardtop and there is no issue with the Pudgy. I can send you a picture showing the install if you give me your email. The Pudgy is the nicest fit for the Ranger boats in my opinion. We have had four adults and a lot of shopping bags and it never let us down!

The Davits you want are made for Ranger Tugs by Weaver. They are up 7 inches and back 4 inches. You will not see them in the Weaver catalog. But if you ask you will find them. I am sure that Ranger Tug parts can supply them...call Richard there.

The link below takes you to a thread discussing this:

Thanks so much, Leon and Herb. I just love the Tugnuts community...type in your question, and "voila!"...you get your answer! 😀
Leon, I would love to see a pic of your setup. I'll PM you with my email.

Appreciatively,
