We have an R 27. We cannot find anywhere info on how much diesel fuel the heater fuel tank holds. Does anyone know? Also it would be helpful to know how much fuel is used per hour of heating. Really concerned about running out since we have no idea. Newbie boater so thanks for any help

It’s a 5 gallon diesel tank. The heater sips fuel. We boat year round in the Pacific Northwest and fill out our diesel tank 2 or 3 times a year.

You did not specify the boat vintage. In the event it is a diesel, it would not have a separate tank and draw fuel from the main fuel tank.

It is a 2019 boat with no fuel gauge for the heater tank. Only the heater uses diesel. The boat runs on gas. I thought if I had an idea how much fuel was used in an hour I could keep a log of usage to know when to refill.

It’s a Webasto Air Top 2000 ST diesel heater.
It consumes between 0.03 and 0.06 gal/hr per the manual.
It puts out 3000-7000 btu/hr.
The heater draws 20watts (2 amps) constantly, when running, for the fans to blow the heat.

We do have a guage on our diesel tank which is nice.
It lasts for a long long time.

Realistically, figure to get about 100 hours worth of heating on about 4 gallons of diesel.

We don’t run the heater all night. The knocking of the fuel pump at night keeps my daughter awake as she sleeps in the cave, closest to the fuel pump. Plus, the fan blows all night and keeps us awake in the v berth. And when we shut the vberth curtain, it’ll turn the v berth into a sauna.

Also, the thermostat is in the cave and the boat has little air circulation. Thus, I never set the thermostat above 63 degrees. If I set it to 72, it’ll make the cabin 1000 degrees.

So, we run the heater a few hours in the evening before bed. We run it a few hours in the morning after we wake up. And we run it as needed when out cruising.

We boat a little over 200 engine hours a year and spend a lot of nights on the boat. We fill up the 5 gallon diesel tank two or three times a year.

When I do fill up on diesel:
I pull into the fuel dock and put in 110 gallons of gas. Cast off the lines, flip her around, and then put in 3.5 gallons of diesel.
